At the end of Week 3, I will compile all of your observations about your own and your classmates’ articles into a list of Rules for News Writing. You will use this collaboratively-generated list to then write your own news articles.
Instructions
As your final project for this unit (due at the end of Week 4), you will write 3 imaginary news articles around the same imaginary topic.
Your Options:
- Write each article in the same subgenre but from a different political perspective (My example from the syllabus: Star Wars– A set of news reports about Luke Skywalker blowing up the Death Star. One from a pro-Empire news site, one from a pro-Rebels site, and one from a centrist site.)
- Write each article in a different subgenre about the same topic. (Star Wars example: 1 news report simply reporting that Luke Skywalker blew up the Death Star, 1 analysis for how this will impact the Empire economically/politically, and 1 opinion piece arguing whether or not the Rebels are terrorists or freedom fighters. Or, you could do less-serious pieces: “The Dark Side of Fashion: Inside Lord Vader’s Closet” )
- Do either of the above options for a real world topic instead. However, if you choose to write about a real world topic, you must make sure your reporting is accurate/cite sources. The plus side is, in news reporting, you don’t have to use MLA or APA formatting. A hyperlink to the source works just fine!
If you choose option 1 or 2, please be as creative as you want.

#1. The news sources I think I’ll be using will be journalism, or articles because it’s easier for me to read. I will agree and disagree depending on what the article is being said. I’ll see the pro and the cons of the topic
#2. Other kinds of political biases are the pro and the cons of each group. This might affect the news writing by getting a little confusing on what topic to talk about because both Republicans and Democrats have different topics that they disagree
#3. From my point of view I see there is a lot of inequality with the president, the community everyone is now with their race and not from what’s fair or not. Like I get the injustice that was done to Mr Floyde but they should tell Minnesota about those cops not about the good cops. I don’t see a lot of news cops helping people out like in the pandemic. A lot of cops were outside helping others but some people think that all cops are the same when in reality they arent they are like us. There are good cops (good people) and bad cops (bad people).
#4. Politicians and reporters as I said before have different points of views but as well as inside the democrats they don’t all agree in what they all say some democrats disagree but they go by the majority so that’s why some Democrats are seen as bad because Democrats go by which one votes morning the Democrats group, and same for the Republicans they both go by the majority of votes in their group.Reference
