All Subgenres state facts, whether these facts are objective or at least try to be for example in an analytical report or maybe the facts are subjective like in a opinion report. But all the subgenera of news writing are designed to inform the reader about a situation that for many different reasons is important. Unique is for example that the fact report tries to stay as unbiased as possible whereas the opinion report does exactly the opposite. The analytical report is, in my opinion, a mixture between both. You might not know from the beginning what the reporters opinion is but if you read the article carefully and pay attention to the details (what words are used for example), you can figure it out.
    2. Fact report- first there has to be a catching headline that makes the reader curious, then the article should state when, where, who, what and why? Giving context to the situation is also very important because when you take certain information out of context it can be interpreted different than intended.Reference

The essential genre features for news writing are analysis and reporting. The reason being because analysis is key in presenting facts and allowing the author to give their own insight whilst not being too opinionated. Something all 3 sub-genres hav in common is that they all attempt to answer questions about an issue. To elaborate, reporting answers the “5-w’s” whilst using facts, analysis gives the reader further insight on the author’s personal belief which tend to be backed by facts, and opinion just gives the reader the authors stand point which tends to usually be backed by personal beliefs or feelings towards an issue. Despite some being more effective than the other, they are all effective in answering questions that are raised by current issues.Reference

Hello Raymond. Nice response, and good job explaining the importance of analysis and reporting articles. However Im not sure if I agree on the last sentence you stated on them being “effective in answering questions that are raised by current issues.” I disagree because I believe when it’s backed up with ones personal opinion it takes away from the effectiveness, and accuracy.

In the first/intro paragraph I would explain to the reader both the situation and my standpoint in a broad manner that just covers the basics. The body paragraphs would then go into depth on why it is that I have this opinion and give the reader insight on the topic in order to open their minds and inform them about it. In the concluding paragraph I would summarize all the points that were covered and leave the reader with a question that they should ask themselves and others when it comes to discussing the topic.Reference

    1. Based on my own analysis and annotations I’ve read from others, what I think are the essential genre features for news writing are interviews, brief news, and press reports. What is common across all three sub-genres we studied this week, is that they tend to follow the same template. Some unique features would be the headlines they each have. Facts articles are most likely to have a specific headline, where analysis and opinion would have a very general interesting headline.
    2. Template for writing a news article:
    .Headline
    .Lead
    .Body
    .Conclusion
What a writer should do in each section from beginning to end is keep the paragraphs short and simple. However, they should still make room for adding important details. Also, the writer should make each section have a good transition.Reference
